Davis Design – Booth #11

Long before green became a buzz word, Davis Design routinely incorporated energy/environmentally friendly features into both new and renovated facilities, so that our clients could maximize the long-term cost effectiveness of their construction dollars while minimizing their operating costs in an environmentally responsible manner.

We trace the founding of our firm back to the formation of the partnership of George Berlinghof and Ellery L. Davis in 1912. This was also the year that these two young architects secured their first major commission—the design of Lincoln High School.

The design of the new school was considered innovative, with reinforced concrete floors and roof. And, long before anyone had even heard of "green design", Berlinghof and Davis incorporated daylighting features throughout the structure.

Today, nearly 100 years after it was built, the original Lincoln High facility continues to serve the community and shows all signs of doing so well into the future. And so it is with Davis Design. As the region's most established design firm, we take pride in our ability to offer innovative and enduring design that satisfies our clients: 80% of our work is with clients with whom we have worked before.

While most people acknowledge the importance of preserving our world’s natural resources, many don’t understand that incorporating green design into a construction project is actually more affordable, with a quicker return on investment, than one might imagine.

And we should know. Long before green became a buzz word, Davis Design routinely incorporated energy/environmentally friendly features into both new and renovated facilities, so that our clients could maximize the long-term cost effectiveness of their construction dollars while minimizing their operating costs in an environmentally responsible manner.

And now, with nearly 1/3 of our design professionals—architects, engineers, interior designers, construction administers—LEED-accredited through the US Green Building Council, we stand even better poised to offer the very best in green design services to our clients.

Our interdisciplinary design process begins by considering the major factors that affect project outcome:
• site,
• building size and program,
• systems,
• materials, and
• budget.

Within these factors lies a wide range of opportunities that allow our clients to make choices that help them meet their design goals. Green design is not an "either/or" situation. Rather, it can be incorporated in various "shades" to meet the Owner's needs. It may be very low cost and basic, such as the inclusion of daylighting or use of local building materials, or it may be more complex and encompassing, such as renovating existing structures or building new construction that meets LEED certification standards.

Whatever our clients' needs, Davis Design offers a full range of architectural, engineeering and interior design services including:
• site development & climate-sensitive building orientation;
• high-performance building envelopes, HVAC, plumbing and lighting systems;
• natural daylighting features;
• materials conservation;
• energy modeling/audits;
• medical gas systems;
• central plant systems;
• low voltage systems;
• data/technology; and
• life safety and security features.
